Position Information

IMPORTANT! Be sure to apply for positions as directed under "HOW TO APPLY" in the Position Information box, and not simply by clicking on the "Apply for this Position" link on the right-hand side. Nearly every job advertised on the VACP Jobs Board requires that you use the hiring agency's own unique application process and they will not consider information submitted through the "Apply for this Position" email form as an official application.

Police Officer
If you are considering a change…consider us.  Following a long-term chief who served the town well, we are excited to announce that we hired a new chief.  To that end, you have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor as the department grows and changes.  We provide 24/7/365 police services in the Town of Tappahannock.  The town is financially stable and because the police department is growing we are currently looking to relocate the police headquarters to a larger facility.  Other recent changes include this newly funded (by the town) patrol officer position.  Additionally, the council and the town manager have committed to fund two new sergeant positions, two new corporal positions, added significant funding to the officer development budget, and are supporting new projects within the department as well.  So, why not experience policing where there is:
  • Community support
  • Support from Town Council
  • Support from Town Management
  • Support from Police Administration
  • And there is a healthy training budget to develop your skills as you progress.
All officers are encouraged to attend advanced trainings such as:  PELS, ILCT, FBI LEEDA Trilogy, SMIP, Southern Police Institute and FBI NA.

The key is we desire to enhance your career with training that YOU believe will be a benefit to both you and the community.
There is a team approach to solve problems

We use a 12-hour schedule that equates to only 7 days every two weeks.
  • 100% paid health insurance for you
  • Virginia Retirement System with the 1.85 multiplier
  • Hazardous Duty Supplement Retirement (LEOS)
  • Virginia Retirement System life insurance
And there are many more benefits to working in this environment!
