Communications Officer
Radford University, a thriving, comprehensive public university of nearly 10,000 students located in Radford, Virginia, invites applications for the position of Communications Officer.  This position serves as the primary point of public contact for visitors to the Radford University Police Department. The position is responsible for coordinating law enforcement communications for police, fire and emergency responders; answering emergency calls for assistance; monitoring building alarm systems; dispatching police officers; and coordinating fire and EMS personnel. The position also issues temporary parking permits to campus visitors and actively participates in meeting the department wide VLEPSC accreditation goals.

Requirements Required qualifications include a demonstrated ability to make sound independent decisions and multi-task in a high-volume, fast-paced, stressful environment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated computer proficiency and experience with general office practices, procedures and equipment; excellent verbal and written communications skills; and the ability to related well with diverse populations in difficult and/or stressful situations. Preference will be given to applicants with DCJS dispatcher, VCIN operator, and/or NCIC certification. Prior experience conducting emergency communication over police radio systems and experience working in higher education preferred.
