Programs

The VACP operates a variety of programs designed to promote best practices in professional policing.

  • Our awards program honors law enforcement officers and citizens who make outstanding contributions to keeping Virginians safe.

  • The VACP is committed to developing police professionals through Leadership Education programs at every stage of your career from first line supervisor to agency head.

  • Our Freedom of Information Act Guide for Law Enforcement helps law enforcement officers have a better understanding of Virginia’s laws governing release of information.

  • The Law Enforcement Oath of Honor is a code of conduct that the VACP recommends to Virginia law enforcement agencies and officers.

  • The Police Office Selection Testing Service is a program to help Virginia law enforcement executives in selecting and hiring qualified officers.

  • Public Safety Executive Hiring Assistance – We have helped a number of localities and colleges/universities over the years with selecting and hiring a new police chief / public safety executive or with finding a temporary interim agency head.

  • The VACP is a partner in Virginia’s Smart Safe and Sober Program to promote traffic safety, and manages a unique website to provide traffic safety information to law enforcement.

  • The VACP’s charity of choice is Special Olympics Virginia, and Virginia law enforcement agencies support Special Olympics through the Annual Torch Run program.
