Training Videos

The VACP has produced three training videos:

• The Traffic Stop — Doing It Right
  A 15-minute roll call video on conducting professional traffic stops.
  (Produced in 2002, with assistance from the Virginia State Police and the Virginia Sheriffs' Association.)

• Baby on Board: A Safe Ride — Every Time
  A short video designed for new parents to highlight the importance of using child safety seats. The video is perfect for viewing at birthing centers and pre-natal classes by the first-time or new parent. In addition, there is a 35-second Public Service Announcement at the end of the tape reminding parents about the dangers of leaving children unattended in a parked automobile.

• Visor Alert
  An eight-minute video roll call video designed to educate officers about Virginia's deaf or hard of hearing population and to help ease communication problems between officers and persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. The video also provide officers with the training necessary to recognize and use the Visor Alert cards.
  (Produced in 2002, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Deaf and Hard of Hearing and with funding assistance from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.)

Additional Videos:

• Fighting Metals Theft: Perspectives from Law Enforcement and Industry
  The video, produced by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) with assistance of the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), focuses on the importance of recognizing the dangers associated with metals theft and how local law enforcement agencies, using the Anne Arundel County Police Department as an example, can use existing resources to combat the crime through concentrated efforts.

• Is Today Your Day?
  The IACP has given the VACP permission to stream their video, Is Today Your Day?, a 23-minute training video to promote officer safety and reduce senseless officer deaths and injuries.
  (Produced in 2010 by the New York State Police, in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; the Federal Highway Administration; the Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted program of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); and the National Sheriffs' Association.)

• Manage to Survive: Traffic Incident Management for First Responders
  The Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Subcommittee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Highway Safety Committee has produced this 18-minute training video on Traffic Incident Management for First Responders. The video provides the basic tools to understand TIM, work together on-scene, and ultimately work together to clear the scene quickly and safely. The aim of TIM is to reduce incident duration significantly, reduce secondary collisions, and improve safety for all motorists who may be driving near incidents.

• Identifying the "At Risk" Driver
  A short roll call video on identifying and addressing drivers whose medical conditions, impairments, or driving behaviors affect their ability to drive safely.

• Alarm Management
  The Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) has given the VACP permission to put their video on Alarm Management on our web site. The VACP urges all law enforcement and public safety agencies to utilize the VACP Model Alarm Management Policy in developing and / or revising their current Alarm Ordinance and Alarm Management Program. • Where There's Smoke
  Philip Morris has produced a 20-minute law enforcement training video on the growing black market in illicit cigarettes.  Rising cigarette prices provide lucrative financial incentive for criminals to smuggle genuine cigarettes from low-tax to high-tax jurisdictions, import cigarettes intended for sale outside of the U.S. and trade in counterfeit versions of U.S. cigarette brands.
  
  Marlboro®, the most popular brand of cigarettes in the U.S., is often the target of counterfeiters and other smuggling schemes. The trade in illicit cigarettes can take many forms, but one thing remains constant – it's against the law.
  
  The video is intended for law enforcement audiences and presents fictitious scenarios designed to raise awareness of activities that indicate involvement in the illicit cigarette trade. All persons, companies and facts portrayed in this video are fictitional and for training purposes only. The laws highlighted in the video are intended to provide general information about laws that may be applicable to illicit cigarette trade activities. This information is not intended as legal advice nor should you consider it such. In addition, the highlighted laws relate only to the locations portrayed in each scenario (including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago) and accordingly may not be applicable in your jurisdiction.
