Inaugural Virginia Traffic Safety Specialist Certifications Awarded

On September 2, 2026, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police presented the inaugural Virginia Traffic Safety Specialist (TSS) certifications to officers from agencies across the Commonwealth during the 101st VACP Annual Conference in Roanoke. In this first year of the Virginia TSS program, 55 officers were recognized for achieving the Traffic Safety Specialist - Level I (TSS-I) designation. In future years, we will be recognizing officers at the Level II and Level III designation.
To earn the TSS-I designation, officers must have the following:
- Minimum 2 years of independent patrol/traffic experience
- Speed Measurement Radar & Lidar Operators Certification
- Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) certification
- Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) training
- Traffic Incident Management (TIM) training
Officers were presented with a certificate and a uniform pin to recognize their expertise in and commitment to traffic safety.
