Lombraña Appointed as Purcellville Police Chief

PURCELLVILLE, Va., April 29, 2026- The Town of Purcellville is pleased to announce the formal appointment of Sara Lombraña as the Chief of Police for the Purcellville Police Department, which occurred at the Town Council meeting on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

Chief Lombraña has been serving as the Interim Chief of Police for Purcellville since February 2025. Chief Lombraña joined the Purcellville Police Department in September 2024 as the Deputy Chief of Police. With over fifteen years of law enforcement experience, and four years of military service with the United States Army, Chief Lombraña provides steady leadership, progressive policing experience, and a distinguished background in criminal investigations.

After proudly serving in the US Army, Chief Lombraña began her career in law enforcement as an intern with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, working field cases throughout multiple jurisdictions. She became a certified police officer with the Fredericksburg Police Department before joining the Colonial Beach Police Department. While at the Colonial Beach Police Department, she advanced through the ranks from patrol officer, Detective, Lieutenant, Captain, and Deputy Chief.

Chief Lombraña holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary Washington and is a graduate of the Virginia Department of Forensic Science Academy. She has completed the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) Certified Law Enforcement Command Executive Officer program, as well as their Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS). Additionally, she has also obtained the prestigious FBI LEEDA Trilogy Award. Chief Lombraña serves as a board member of the Virginia Homicide Investigators Association (VHIA), is a member of the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy (NVCJA) Executive Committee, and is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Women in Law Enforcement (MAAWLE).
