Richmond International Airport Appoints James K. Delano as Chief of Police
Richmond International Airport has announced the appointment of Interim Chief James K. Delano as its next Chief of Police.
Chief Delano has served with the Richmond International Airport Police Department since 2016, where he has demonstrated a strong commitment to public safety, professionalism, and effective leadership.
Chief Delano brings more than 22 years of law enforcement experience to his new role. Prior to joining the Commission, he served with several Virginia law enforcement agencies, including the Henrico County Division of Police and the West Point Police Department, gaining experience in patrol operations, investigations, narcotics enforcement, SWAT operations, inspections, and training.
His dedication to professional development has remained a hallmark of his career. James holds a Master of Science in Executive Leadership from Liberty University and a Bachelor of Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has also completed numerous executive leadership, command, and specialized public safety programs, including the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police New Chief/Deputy Chief School, Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS), the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy, and the Richmond Metro Leadership Academy.
As Chief of Police, Delano will lead the Richmond International Airport Police Department in providing law enforcement and public safety services at one of the Commonwealth’s most important transportation facilities. His appointment represents his continued dedication to serving the Richmond region and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
