Norton Police Chief James Lane Announces Retirement

Member News, Virginia News,

We wish Chief Lane all the best in a well-earned retirement!

To the Citizens of Norton,

After 30 incredible years of service, I want to share with you that I will be retiring as Chief of Police for the City of Norton, effective April 30, 2026.

Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Over the past three decades, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the finest law enforcement professionals and public servants anyone could ask for. The dedication, professionalism, and commitment of the men and women of the Norton Police Department have always made me proud.

I want to sincerely thank the City of Norton, the members of the Norton Police Department, our community, and the citizens I’ve had the honor to serve. Your trust, support, and encouragement over the years have meant more than words can express.

While it is bittersweet to close this chapter, I leave with a heart full of gratitude and pride for all we’ve accomplished together. I will always cherish the friendships, experiences, and memories from these past 30 years.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve this great community.

Sincerely,
Chief James C. Lane
